Between 2009 and 2015, China executed at least 19 foreigners for drug trafficking. This study examines some notable cases in which foreign drug offenders were death sentenced and executed in China and discusses issues exposed. It further contrasts international due process protection requirements for foreigners who face criminal charges based on China's laws and shows that China's laws largely comply with international standards, though there is the question on compliance in actions.

Efforts to classify sexual offending and offenders continued to evolve over the years based on criteria such as offender and victim characteristics, offender–victim relationships, the nature of sexual offenses, and other situational factors. This current study draws up a typology of sexual offending against minors based on 436 adjudicated rape and child molestation cases in China. Specifically, sexual offending against minors is classified into six major categories, including opportunistic offenses, serial offenses, dating couple offenses, educator abuses, gang/party offenses, and incest offenses. Based on this empirical typology, a number of crime prevention measures are suggested. These suggestions aim at involving multiple players and institutions to focus on education, target hardening, and crime investigation. This study makes a significant contribution to comparative studies in this field, and the results could be potentially applied in other cultures.

Though research on drug and driving under the influence (DUI) courts increased significantly in the past two decades, very little has focused on women's participation in these programs and how gender may have influenced clients' performance, despite the call of feminist criminologists that entry into crime and substance abuse is different for women. Based on data collected from Tulsa County DUI and Drug programs in Oklahoma, this study examines the impact of gender on clients' performance in both programs. In addition to identifying associations between clients' gender and demographics, criminal history, addiction problems, and other medical and mental health problems, this study explores gender's impact on both program progress (e.g., program length, use of sanctions, relapse) and final outcome (termination vs. graduation). Data show that different factors are associated with female entry into drug and DUI courts and successful completion of the program compared with men, which calls for gender tailored treatment for women.

This article focuses on the process of China's increasing connections with other nations within the global system and analyzes the impact of these global connections on China's economic development and domestic legal and economic systems. We suggest that China's reaction to globalization can be analyzed by reference to a mixture of modernization theory and the world system perspective. We further examine the forces behind China's decision to join the World Trade Organization and discuss crucial ways in which the Chinese government and legal system have been pressured or have elected to adopt international standards in order for the country to become a key player in the global marketplace.
